By Order of His Majesty the King of Denmark, Commodore Konow, Governor ad-interim of the Danish West Indies, delivers at this moment these islands to the representatives of the United States of America. In conformity with the act the Danish Flag is now taken down from all public buildings.” With these words, delivered at 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 1917, the transfer of the Danish West Indies to the United States became official. This year marks the 100th anniversary of this event, about which many Danes and Americans alike know very little. On March 5th the Danish Club of Houston and the Royal Danish Consulate are hosting a presentation and reception to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this transfer of the islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John, today known as the U.S. Virgin Islands. Author, historian, and Virgin Island native Enrique Corneiro will speak to us about the 250-year history of Danish relations with the islands, including many pictures, stories, and even video of the transfer ceremony in 1917. Please plan to attend this interesting and entertaining presentation, beginning at 4:00 p.m.at Chef Søren Pedersen’s venue.  Light appetizers - Caribbean style - will be served, and cash bar will be available.

Price is $12 per person.  Valet parking and a Caribbean rum specialty drink included!
